New job, new residence, new schools, new neighbors. A thousand and one important things to do. Not only will we prepare your quote for your employer, we will prepare you!  We want your move to be seamless and worry free.

As importantly, we can act as a liaison with your employer, letting them know what is being moved and when it will be moved. This gives your employer the reassurance and information they need for payment and processing of your moves invoice. Our representatives often work closely with your employer to make your move completely seamless, eliminating red tape. Christofferson Moving and Storage provides prompt and efficient service from the initial contact, until your last possession is put in place.

Moving Day

Even though your employer is covering the cost of your move, it is your responsibility to see that all of your goods are loaded, so remain on the premises until loading is completed.  After making a final tour of the house to be sure any items have not been overlooked, check over and sign the inventory. Get your copy from the van operator and keep it in a safe place. Approve and sign the combination Bill of lading and Freight Bill. It releases your goods to the carrier and states the terms and conditions under which your goods are transported and is also your receipt for the shipment. Be sure you have completed and signed the declared valuation statement in the space provided on the Bill of Lading, if applicable to your shipment.

Make sure the Christofferson United Van operator has your exact destination address.  Be precise about how and where you can be reached, including telephone numbers, pending the arrival of your household goods.  You may want to notify the United agent at origin of your whereabouts. If you are not sure of your contact information, you can provide us a name of a third party individual whom you intend to communicate with while you and your goods are in transit.

Last Minute Details

Even if you own the telephone in your home, please leave it connected throughout moving day. Once the van leaves and you finish last-minute calls, be sure to pack the phone in your luggage.
Take a last look around:
Water switched off?
Furnace shut off?
Are closets and cupboards empty?
Lights out?

Have you left anything? Attics or crawl spaces?
All utilities arranged for disconnection?
House keys surrendered?

Delivery

Please be available to accept delivery within the agreed upon delivery spread of days.  If you cannot be there personally, be sure you authorize a responsible adult to act as your representative to accept delivery and settle any charges that may be due.

On the day before delivery, the van operator will attempt to contact you by phone and/or will make an appearance at the residence if he is unable to reach you. If you are unable to be contacted by phone, leave a note on your residence door indicating where you can be reached. If at all possible, provide your driver with a cell phone number or keep in contact with your Christofferson Move Coordinator. If neither you nor your representative appears to receive the shipment within the free waiting time, your household goods can be placed in storage. You will be responsible for all additional charges related to the storage and re delivery of your goods.

Check over your household goods, as they are unloaded. If there is a significant change in the condition of the property from that noted on the inventory at the time of loading or if any items are missing, note any damaged and/or missing items on the van operator’s copy of the inventory sheet.  When you sign the inventory sheet, you are acknowledging receipt of all items listed. Personally report any loss or damage to the United Van Lines driver and request a claim form from the agent at the destination immediately, they will assist you.

Each piece of furniture will be placed as you direct, including the laying of rugs and setting up of beds. However, appliances and/or fixtures cannot be installed. At your request and for an additional fee, our agent can arrange for this service and/or for the filling of a waterbed mattress.

Keep all documents pertaining to your move in a safe place. You may need them for verification of moving expenses when you file your federal income tax returns.
